It's been a while, but I do have a half written update from September 11th that I finally cleaned up and posted below. And I've been meaning to update with all the craziness I've been up to the last few weeks, including the awesomeness that was the Austin City Limits Festival, the news that I'm going to be on national TV with Bloc Party after getting to get into an ACL TV show taping, and that I went to the amazing Albuquerque (which in the two dozen times I've typed that word the last few weeks, this was the first time I spelled it correctly on the first try) hot air balloon fiesta. And have amazing pictures from all those, but alas I haven't had time to sort and upload them to the website yet, even though it's been what, a month from ACL already?

And one would think that with how sporatic I handle just typing a few sentences and uploading it, I would be smarter than this, but I have plans to do a complete renovation on this website, including a completely new redesign and using a database system to keep track of entries. Basically bringing it up to 2007 web standards instead of late 90's. And I also want to write some code to automate uploading pictures so that I can get those up easier and faster. I don't really have a set date when all this will happen, hopefully by the end of the year, but I make no promises.

That last part about the photos will become of particular interest once I finally pull the trigger in the next month or two on buying a dSLR camera. I've been wanting for a long while now, and after getting to play around with one at length during the Albuquerque trip, I'm sold and so I'm going to be getting myself one for Christmas/early Christmas. Besides, the photo-name digits rolled over on my point and shoot, so now my pictures are going to be out of order. It took a little over 2 years to take the 10,000 pictures.

Also USF is ranked #2 in the country? What. The. #$(*#$? You know it's a crazy season when this is the first year they've ever been ranked, and now somehow they find themselves at #2. Which I'm happy for the program and I have many friends who go there, but do people honestly believe that if they played Florida or LSU this week that USF would have the better odds at winning? I mean really? And don't even get me started on that Ohio State is #1 when it hasn't beaten a single top 25 team yet, and only 2 teams with winning records.

Well work on the new design is going pretty well surprisingly, though it'll still probably quite a while before it shows up. I've already got all the past entries into the database, and now I'm working out the kinks in the PHP code. Then comes getting the new design to work in both IE and Firefox. So for the 5 people every day who randomely wander onto this site, one of these days it'll suddenly look completely different.

Two of my plants kicked the bucket tonight. One of them has been stuggling off and on for a few months, and so I decided to put it out of its misery. The other one though was doing perfectly fine until about 5 days ago when all of the sudden it decided to turn yellow and start rotting. I'm pretty happy they were able to last almost 8 months though, and I sitll have my peace lily left to provide some greenery in the apartment until I get some replacement plants. I figure I'll get a dog one day further down the road, but until then plants are about the only thing I have time to take care of, and even that gets iffy sometimes.

I'm slowly but surely getting closer with the new design. I've got all the php working on the static pages, as well as on the archives. Now I just need to work on creating the photo galleries and writing some sort of script to easily update the mp3 list. Which I've been meaning to do the latter for ohhhh, hmm, 5 years? But this time I mean it, I swear!

This is one of the many interesting results of "democracy" on the Internet. SA looked at Wikipedia entry length and depth of knowledge in two related subjects, one of "real" importantance like NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory and one that only internet nerds would care about, such as Half Life's fictional Black Mesa Research Facility. Is anyone really that surprised the latter is far longer?

Halloween is coming!
