No, I did not suffer from a horrendous carpal tunnel syndrome accident that left me unable to type for over a month, and so I can't blame that for the reason that the last update was back in mid-May. Instead it's just my usual "I'll get around to it after I go do < INSERT SOME RANDOM THING HERE > " laziness. Of course by now all you readers should be used to this, I can't even come up with witty original opening sentences anymore to explain away the delay because it happens so often. But since multiple people have told me that they use this page to keep up with the stuff I've been up to since I moved to Austin, I actually really ought to write something every once in a while. And not just about the random news stories that I find interesting that has been the meat and potatoes of this site during most of its life.

In short summary, I'm continuing to really love Austin. I've been to 4 Alamo Drafthouse Sing-a-longs* in the last month or so, and just in general I still spend an awful lot of time at that theater. And coming in July is the Transformers movie, and the Alamo Drafthouse next to my place is going to have a 60 foot tall, fire breathing, car eating Robosaurus in their parking lot for the premiere. Because what is better to see before a movie about giant robots than a giant robot?

*For those who do not know the awesomeness that is the Alamo Drafthouse sing-a-long, basically they play music videos with the lyrics imposed on the screen. So then the audience can sing, and dance, along at the top of their lungs. Usually it's themed, for instance: Jiggy Crunk (old school 90's rap and hip hop), Ladies of the 80's (80's pop!), Boy-Band (self explanatory, but way too much NKOTB (Two things: 1) Welcome to mid 90's web design, aka the typical MySpace page and 2) They're now 38. How's that for old (embedded embedded parentheses)) for my tastes) or the latest one, Mix-Tape (the best of all the previous ones they've held). The other best part is on the rap songs, for the first time I actually can figure out what the heck they're saying. It's enlightening to say the least. OPP indeed.

And as usual, I've been going to a lot of concerts (Voxtrot, Ghostland Observatory, Ruthie Foster) and have a lot more to look forward to (Tokyo Police Club, Jimmy Eat World, and ACL Fest to name a few). I haven't been taking as many pictures as I did in the past, which I really need to work on. I never remember to bring my camera along. So I miss shots like the car license plate that was a specialty plate with a tree on it, and then had "Hugger" as the tag letters.

I still need to sort through the pictures I have taken though, I haven't kept up well with that either. Nor with all the CD's I've been ripping. At the moment I'm on an old school techno state of mind though, which brings back memories of the techno I listend to in high school and early college. I also updated the bands and Song of the Moment (and that was like a year long moment) pages. And even the bio page, to put that I now live in Austin.

Facebook is growing up fast, and now wants to be the platform for all future social networking applications. There's already over a hundred new ones to play around with, and there's been hundreds more added since it's been added last month. Slate also has some commentary on how Facebook could become bigger than Google, Yahoo, or any other website in the next few years.

Reason #34232 why I love Linux: I managed to make it 61 days, 18 hours, and 54 minutes without rebooting my Linux laptop, until I had to reboot to install a security update. Otherwise I was still going quite strong. I also changed my mp3 player for the first time, well, ever, on Linux, to Amarok, which is basically an iTunes clone. Check it out if you're getting tired of XMMS never updating, the last release was back in Feb 2004 for crying out loud.

The cam page was updated for the first time in a blue moon. And yes, Fruit Mentos are basically crack in sweet sweet candy form. There's nothing at all natural about them, which is probably a large reason why they taste so freaking good. I also had some Ben & Jerry's Cinnamon Bun ice cream today, which tasted exactly like what would happen if you put a cinnamon bun in ice cream form. In other words, really good. I'm still waiting for pizza ice cream though, one day someone will make it.... one day.

I have to admit I'm very intrigued by the iPhone, but since it only uses AT&T->Cingular->AT&T (they really ought to make up their minds already!) and everyone I know that uses their service hates them, that's a deal breaker. It's so pretty though!

Two movies are coming out this weekend that I really want to see: Ratatouille and Live Free or Die Hard. The former because it's about rat that cooks (and the cooking is apparently spot on to how real chefs create French cuisine), and the latter because it has lots of things blowing up in it. Which a movie always gets .10 of a star per massive explosion, so from the trailer it looks like this is going to be a 10 star (out of 5) movie.
